Apple HomeView: the home display launching without Spain
A shared display for music, calls and home controls. Its proposition helps explain why Siri AI and Apple Intelligence have different availability.
Apple introduces HomeView, with an EU omission
Apple introduced HomeView on 13 October. The home display excludes the EU at launch: the company connects this to Siri AI availability.[1]
A display shared by the household
The device brings music, FaceTime calls and home controls together on a seven-inch display. Apple describes a shared space that changes when it recognizes a user: personal content requires a paired compatible iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence enabled, on the same Wi-Fi and recently unlocked. These are conditions for a shared proposition, not an independent personal display.[2]
$299 is not a Spanish price
Desktop and wall-mounted versions cost $299 in the US. Deliveries start on 13 November in selected markets, including the UK.[1]
Europe and the European Union differ here
Spain is excluded; the UK is included. Distinguish Europe from the European Union.[1]
Siri AI has its own availability map
Support documentation distinguishes platforms: Siri AI is unavailable to EU residents on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS. It does cover compatible macOS 27 and visionOS 27 devices, with an EU account and the device and Siri set to English. That is a different availability situation, rather than a solution Apple has announced for activating HomeView in Spain.[3]
Apple Intelligence offers other EU features
Apple provides Apple Intelligence features on compatible European devices, including image tools and features within apps. Siri AI’s restriction on particular platforms does not mean Apple’s entire AI family is absent from the EU market. Check the feature’s name, operating system and language: sharing a brand does not mean sharing requirements.[4]
The household question remains useful
The announcement raises an interesting question even where the product is not sold: which tasks deserve a shared screen. If people check calendars, change music and take calls from different places at home, that is the proposition to consider. A feature list explains possibilities; fitting them into a routine explains what they might be useful for.
