Neva: caring for a wolf who will not always need you in the same way
Nomada, the studio behind GRIS, makes an animal companion’s growth the thread of an adventure. Two players describe journeys of different lengths.
Alba does not travel alone
Alba and a wolf cub cross a world that is falling into decay. In Neva, their relationship begins after a traumatic encounter with dark forces, but the journey goes beyond protecting a small animal. Nomada’s action-adventure follows that companion as she changes. Their shared aim is to survive and find a new home; the accompanying question is how to stay together when one of them grows.[1]
A companion with her own identity
Devolver describes a relationship that evolves as the pair learn to work together. The wolf grows from cub to adult and develops her own identity. That growth offers a reading of the premise beyond taking a pet from one setting to another: helping someone can also mean accepting that their role changes. Collaboration in the face of danger is the concrete link between story and adventure presented by the publisher.[2]
The studio that started in Barcelona
Nomada is based in Barcelona. Its history brings Adrián Cuevas and Roger Mendoza together with artist Conrad Roset: that meeting led to GRIS, the team’s debut. Knowing where Neva comes from gives newcomers an entry point into its games. You might arrive through an interest in an adventure with an animal, then explore the studio’s earlier work without treating the two titles as the same story.[4]
Two journeys, two clocks
Among five recent Steam reviews consulted, one written in French highlights Neva’s growing autonomy and puts the experience at seven hours. Another, in English, reports finishing in about four and a half hours. These are individual accounts, useful for showing that people do not describe identical journeys; they do not set a duration for your playthrough. The first discusses how the relationship changes as well as expressing enthusiasm for the game.[3]
What might draw you to the journey
If you are interested in following two characters learning to depend on one another, there is a recognisable starting point here. Knowing GRIS is unnecessary to understand Neva’s announced conflict. Before choosing it, consider what you want from an animal companion: a presence that stays the same or a relationship that moves forward with you. The latter possibility distinguishes its introduction.
