SuperTuxKart Evolution changes Candela City: rebuilding the racing circuit

The park joins the race. The new route remains in development.

A city can change the race

On 30 September, SuperTuxKart presented Candela City’s transformation for Evolution, the next stage of its kart-racing game. The announcement includes a course explanation and an official video: the changes concern how races play out as well as the scenery.[1][2]

The demonstration needs context: Evolution is still in development. The documentation identifies 1.5, released on 20 October 2025, as the stable version. Do not assume the new route is included in that download. The video lets you follow the work without mistaking it for a release.[1][2]

The park stops being just scenery

The blog describes a park road replacing one easy bend with three, and a roundabout around the arch. You need not know the old track by heart to understand the proposal.[3]

Changing a racing route affects where you brake, how you enter a bend and where you try to make up ground. That is the interesting part of the proposal: the city’s appearance matters, as does what it asks you to do at the wheel. The team’s design intention does not yet prove it has found a perfect balance.[3]

A city with humour in its details

Candela draws on European cities including Paris and Venice. A metro is closed by a strike: even among karts, some days call for alternative transport.[3][4]

Small details give the place a personality that a list of graphical upgrades misses. The blog explains decisions about the track; the video shows the route being prepared. Neither replaces a hands-on session, but together they offer more context than an announcement with a single image.[3][4]

What you can play and what remains unfinished

The official website provides access to the stable version and development news. Evolution has an open milestone on GitHub; the Candela announcement gives no release date.[1][5]

To discover the game today, start with the stable edition. To follow this story, the interest lies in how the team turns an existing city into a different track. These are two reasons to approach the project, with different expectations and no need to sell every change as a revolution.[1][5]
