Hogwarts Legacy is getting DLSS 5: what NVIDIA’s “2X” model means
The update is announced for 5 November. Distinguishing the AI workload from whole-game performance helps avoid misreading the figures.
A Hogwarts return with an update on the calendar
NVIDIA announced DLSS 5 for Hogwarts Legacy on 13 October, scheduled for 5 November on RTX 50, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark. Its new model debuts earlier, on 16 October, in NBA 2K27. These are announced future updates rather than features already tested in Hogwarts.[1]
Twice as fast does not mean double the FPS
The company describes a twice-as-fast neural model, but cites a gain of up to 1.4 times in NBA 2K27. Spanish outlet TechPlanet covers the announcement. The figures come from NVIDIA: work in one part of the process and the frames delivered by the whole game are different measurements.[1][2]
DLSS 5 changes lighting and materials
The original March introduction describes 3D-guided neural rendering: AI acts on lighting and materials over the game’s image. NVIDIA describes controls for developers to adjust where and how it applies. This explains why comparison goes beyond a counter: preserving the game’s visual intent also matters.[3]
An RTX name does not unlock every feature
The official table separates features. DLSS 5 neural rendering is for RTX 50; Frame Generation supports RTX 40 and 50, while Ray Reconstruction also covers the 20 and 30 series. Check GPU, feature and game. A hardware family supporting a technique does not mean every game includes it.[4]
Look at the image as well as the counter
When comparing results, ask whether resolution, detail or frame generation changed. A high counter describes part of the experience; how the game looks and responds completes the comparison. To assess this update, observing the same route with known settings is more useful than automatically applying an announcement’s figure to every system.
